I am constantly surprised, when talking to people, at how little general knowledge there is about pathology (despite the number of tests we do), and yet how much genuine interest there is when I then talk about my job or the role of the various pathology laboratories. This year the challenge is to match that surprise with the corresponding interest and take every opportunity to publicise the work that we do. No one else will fully understand the importance of the work we undertake – until we tell them or show them. Please use this year to make a difference to the understanding of pathology in your hospital and local area. Karen.Poyser@wales.nhs.uk
