When: This event will be taking place on 23/01/2012, 24/01/2012 , 25/01/2012 , 26/01/2012 and 27/01/2012, from 10:00 until 15:00.
Description: You are invited to attend an Open House Week at the Royal Free Hospital to view unknown and unprovenanced histopathology specimens which are part of UCL’s Pathology Collections.
We need your help to:
- Identify these unknown and unprovenanced specimens,
- Advise us on what information would make them useful for teaching and research and what archives or other resources we can consult to do this, and
- Share any inspiration about how we can develop these specimens as a resource for teaching and research.
The unprovenanced material consists of specimens amalgamated from various medical schools including the Bland Sutton, Middlesex and University College Hospitals. We also hold undocumented collections from the Whittington and Great Ormond Street Hospitals which require further investigation. There are approximately 1,000 pathological wet specimens in total, with no associated documentation.
All of these specimens now fall under the care of UCL Museums & Collections. Our main remit is to support teaching and research at the university. We need to determine if these specimens can be used to fulfill such purposes here. If this is not the case, the specimens will be considered for disposal, either by transfer to other public institutions (medical schools, museum collections, etc.) or by destruction.
