'Bugs around the Brain': a hands on meningitis diagnostics workshop for secondary school students

Four very different people have been admitted to hospital with signs of meningitis. What bacteria is to blame? Is this an outbreak? How can the microbiology lab be used to solve the mystery and help treat the patients? This hands on workshop will involve pupils working in teams to do laboratory tests and vaccine research to come up with diagnosis and control strategies for a potential meningitis outbreak.
