A poster presentation will look at the varied and interesting aspects of a pathology department to highlight the crucial role science plays in healthcare.

Short tours of the Pathology departments to see the work that goes on, and to gain a better understanding of the role of Pathology within the hospital.

Laboratory tours for local schools.

This event aims to give the general public an idea about the role of the pathologists and their work style.

A series of presentations by representatives of all disciplines of pathology, each followed by a discussion with an audience of GPs, and PCT & acute trust managers.

Poster stand and demonstration of laboratory tests from various departments including Chemistry, Haematology and Microbiology.

Poster presentation and discussion focused on Veterinary Pathology as a career.

A talk presented by a Clinical Molecular Geneticist from the West Midlands Regional Genetics Laboratory.

Follow the steps that a cervical smear Liquid-based cytology (LBC) sample takes from reception to production of slide...  An event for staff and medical students.

A tour of the laboratory, with slide viewing, case discussion, and discussion of the role of pathology in medicine.

Last year we welcomed over 200 visitors to our "Pathology Open Afternoon". This year we intend to build on the success of the event and are delighted to be able to offer the additional, unique opportunity for school parties to tour the newly constructed Centre of the Cell Science Education Pod.

Cardiac Pathology Lab Open Day designed for local secondary school pupils interested in cardiac pathology. 

 

Stands for each of the four areas: haematology, microbiology, biochemistry and pathology, will also be available to the public in the main foyer of the hospital between 10am and 4pm.

An interactive pathology quiz for clinicians, designed to help inform about the role of the clinical biochemistry laboratory in the hospital and to facilitate better use of its resources. 

 

Today's audiences: hospital medical staff, Charing Cross Hospital Grand Round: 1-1.30pm; GPs, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital: 2-3pm.

 

A lecture by Mr W. Edwards, Keeper of the Gordon Museum, the pathology museum at Guy's Hospital.  This lecture will look at the history of pathology museums and some of the "famous" specimens in the Gordon Museum

A Cardiovascular screening day is being organized, where Point of Care cholesterol testing and vascular health checks will be carried out for the general public and staff members.  There will also be a 'pathology market', where various specialties in pathology will showcase thier careers.

2pm-4pm

 

This is an opportunity for invited students to visit and tour our department and see what we do and how. This includes talking with consultant and junior histopathologists about their jobs and a chance to ask any questions.
