Join pathologist Dr Suzy Lishman and her team from the Royal College of Pathologists, and British Heart Foundation cardiologist Professor Peter Weissberg for a fascinating guided tour inside the heart.

This event is aimed at all healthcare professionals in the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS trust.  A guided tour of the lab will include various stations demonstrating the cut-up, processing, histology and cytology of selected specimens.

Information stands in the Hospital entrances, manned by laboratory professionals.

In this event we aim to explain the work pathologists do, and provide careers advice.  We will concentrate on the role of pathology and pathologists in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular diseases.

 

We also plan to demonstrate the heart, its compartments and the coronary arteries, using a real pig's heart.  Further ideas, including sections on healthy eating, are 'in progress'!

Moments from the history of pathology are portrayed using drama and comedy as we look at the past, present and possible future of the heart.

The tour will include an opportunity to see tissues and slides being prepared for examination under the microscope with some "hands on" work.
