World AIDS Day - 1st December
Thursday 1st December is World AIDS Day. This gives people an opportunity to unite in the fight against HIV. Pathologists, in particular virologists, play a key part in researching new ways to treat viruses such as HIV.
HIV is currently estimated to infect 33.3 million people globally, yet HIV remains a taboo subject, partly due to a lack of knowledge of the disease. World AIDS Day aims to raise awareness and educate society about the realities of HIV. The money World AIDS Day raises is crucial to the long term implementation of this goal as well as for further research into the virus.
